Gen. Casey on the strength of our diversity
Gen. George Casey, Chief of Staff of the Army, appeared on several morning talk shows this morning, highlighting the strength of our Army, and resilience even in times of trouble.
Appearing on CNN’s State of the Union, Casey emphasized the need to wait for the completion of the investigation before drawing conclusions concerning the cause or motivation behind the shootings:
“We have to be careful,” Casey said, “because we can’t jump to conclusions now based on little snippets of information that have come out.”
“As great a tragedy as this was, it would be a shame if our diversity became a casualty as well,” the Army Chief of Staff also said Sunday.
Casey added that he does not think there is currently discrimination against the roughly 3,000 Muslims who serve in the Army.

First i would like to say my thoughts and prayers are to the families of the fallen and injured. I served 3 years in the army at fort riley 1 year in iraq 03-04. My brother was stationed at fort hood. No doubg our soliders are selfless and brave. But to think there is not even a hint of discrimination against muslims in the army is hard to belive. I have seen it and had friends go through it. I admitt my first thoughts were terrorist attack and then to find out it was a muslim solider just made me belive that more. But i am not aginst muslims just those who claim to do things for alah. Read your holy book, were does it say to kill? I know justice will be served at fort hood. But you still can not replace the lives lost or repair the damaged done just by saying sorry. It will take time to heal. I wish the families the best and i support you.
“One wonders just who people like General Casey have in mind when they warn about a backlash against all Muslims because of something like Fort Hood. What exactly are they worried about? What kinds of people do they think their fellow Americans are that we require such admonitions? There is something insulting about the manner of such pompous scolds, something that seems to imply the rest of us are such rude, crude, ignorant and uncivilized yahoos that we would go on a rampage against any Muslims we could find just to get even and settle the score. Is this what General Casey and people like him really thinks about us?
Nobody I am aware of contemplates or desires a backlash against Muslims for acts such as the Fort Hood massacre. We would like to find out why someone like Major Hasan was allowed despite many obvious signs of trouble to remain on active duty. If there is a backlash to be feared perhaps General Casey and others in the Army brass and Department of Defense ought be be concerned it might come their way. Someone needs to be accountable for failing to address the clear signals Major Hasan was sending.
The Enemy Attack at Fort Hood – Actions Required
First, there is no doubt that this cowardly attack was an act of Jihad by an Infiltrator. Although it would be unprecedented, action should be taken to award all the victims at Ft. Hood the Purple Heart (or Civilian Equivalent) for wounds received in combat, inflicted by an enemy of the United States.
In view of the Muslim Terrorist Attack at Ft. Hood, our Government must rethink its Political Correctness regarding “Racial Profiling” of members of the peaceful Islamic religion.
Major Hasan should be considered an “Enemy Combatant” and treated as a “Spy”. He should face a firing squad. All other Muslim members of the Armed Forces should face rigid background checks, be subject to regular polygraph examinations, and not be assigned to any Combat Unit or other Mission Critical unit unless their loyalty has been proven beyond any doubt.
These actions are necessary for our national security in view of this enemy terrorist act and past attacks either planned or actually executed by Jihadis against our Military Personnel and our Bases within the United States.
The General is under orders from Omama Admin. and Holder to not inflame islamists no mater how many fine American soldiers die at the hands of the Koran believers. PC will kill thousands or 13 and the leftists now in DC will look the other way, because ISLAM IS THE RELIGION OF “peace”. Read the Koran and discover that Islam preaches the actions of the Major. When in the enemy country mouth words of conciliation, await your chance, then ALLAH AKBAR!!! As you murder in the name of Mohammed, the Prophet who had Koran licensed sex with a pre-teen “wife.” Solution? No admittance to Muslims, deport any with crimes. The Trojan Horse is within our borders, and within our military tents….Deport them, and save American lives.
Indeed you are all correct and make valid points. Except for one the koran is all most idintical to our holy bible in the values it is based on. I do not belive what i have read at least is tell muslims to kill.
It is outrageous — scandalous — that over 50 American soldiers had to die or be wounded because the Department of Defense chose to be politically correct and put diversity above all else in doing nothing about the Islamic extremist, Major Hasan, before it was too late and he committed his terrorist act.
Please don’t ask me to “reserve judgement.” If it walks like a duck… That’s what the Army did and it cost 12 soldiers and a civilian their lives!
As one peaceful Muslim author says, “Face reality or it will face you!”
I heard General Casey on the Sunday TV talk shows and he should be ashamed of himself and the Army’s policies! Out of respect for our brave fighting men and women, diversity yes, but please bring an end to the naive and politically correct policies that allowed these deaths and injuries — made them inevitable!
Yes!!!!! Mr. Woods you hit the nail on the head. That was what i was wanting to say. It isn’t all muslims but if your on the internet visting extremest web sites talking about suicide bombs like they are a good thing then that has to raise some red flags. I think the general and the army brass are scared of racial profileing. Parden my spelling. Get it through your heads!!! It isn’t about being muslim its about the obvious problems this guy had with the army and america in general. Every one of the higher ups wanna tip toe around the muslim issue. But even muslims do not like the extreme jihad terrorist. Like tom said if it walks like a duck. You talk about suicide bombings or how the korans laws are above americas and on several occasions complain about the war and how you wanna do something to stop america, then i am going call you a terrorist plain and simple. This man should have never made it this far in the army. There are reviews and standards that have to be done and followed to get promoted.
Mr. Woods and those who see this as political deference to Islam are correct. After having studied and taught academically regarding the Qu’ran and its admonishments, when conjoined with Shari’ah and the Hadith, Gen. Casey and the political elite who address this as less than a cultural war do a disservice to our men and women in uniform. Islam has been fighting since it was first founded after Muhammed’s successful battle to gain control of trade routes against the Christian and Jewish traders who had banished him from Mecca. This war is 1400 years old and only we have taken time from its planning and commission. Let us name our enemy and fight this war without the political sidewinding from our Commander in Chief, the House and Senate, and all other political entities who cloud our vision. Sad that in his autobiography the Audacity of Hope the C-in-C states that he possesses no political will to stand against our Islamic foe when he says, “I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction.” God Bless America, and I pray that God will have mercy on those who suffer at Ft. Hood and all who have, at any time, grabbed a rifle and stood a post so we may live free from tyranny.
@Tom Woods
Casey should be fired!!!!!! he is General of PC not the Army
“As great a tragedy as this was, it would be a shame if our diversity became a casualty as well,” the Army Chief of Staff also said Sunday.”..
I am searching for a video recording of General Casey’s remarks. Those are not his exact words. He said something to the effect that it would be even more tragic if the diversity became a casualty as well.
Big difference, I think.
Casey’s words are utter horseshit. I’d be ashamed if I were mil under that garbage excuse for a commander. I want to hear from our military how many enemy they plan on killing next assignment in the field, or what tactical nuke Casey would launch on what Muslim “holy” site. This diversity crap is nothing but rehashed communism, and if I were mil I’d get outta whatever branch before I got wasted by some Mooslem on his period. Shit…what has happened to our leaders?
Ya just can’t take the criticism, the embarrassment of working for a coward. Shame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Army Chief of Staff has forgot what his job is and his comments reflect his total lack of faith in our soldiers. It is still a mystery why he was selected for this position based on his performance in Iraq, but then again the defense department dropped its pay for proformance plan, so, I guess it was his turn. The fact that this Major was still in the service under his watch is a leadership failure, period. Time to fix the problem or drop your papers and let someone else do it. Start worring about our soldiers and less about “the blacklash”.
It is apparent to me that General Casey is a politician, not a soldier. It would be NICE if the General had instructed the Army Leaders to be on the lookout for soldiers exchanging emails with the enemy and bragging about suicide missions. NOPE, the General thinks it more important to be kind and understanding than to take reasonable steps to protect the soldiers in his command. I have a son in the Army, I am counseling him to get out, with this witless politically correct boob in charge there is no way I want him in the Army. I’m absolutely certain that General Diversity Casey will demand more rigorous disarmament of soldiers and civilians on Army facilities. Naturally, law abiding soldiers and civilians will comply, but suicide attackers won’t, and General Diversity Casey will have helped create more unarmed victims. General Diversity Casey should resign, he is either an idiot or a traitor to his creed. There is dereliction of duty here, but General Diversity Casey will cover it up in order to protect his politically correct career. He is a politician, not a soldier.
To have this general say something as stupid as that after the massacre of 13 of his soldiers by a Muslim terrorist/jihadist and sacrificed to political correctness was appalling. This Muslim bastard was promoted based on minority quotas as well even though he had career-killing evaluations and was reported for anti-Christian pro-jihadist rants. I don’t know how he had a commission, since you need a clearance to have a commission. A real president would fire this general. My God what is the Army coming to.
Crystal, the link is at the top of this page to CNN and it is what he said. Dote!!!
Ok it seems we all agree gen. Casey has problems “major” problems. Like i said to start i am prior service and just signed back up this past week. I will go to afgahnistan and i will do what i must to fight the extremest. People like you here make it even easier for me to do that because i again beleive in america. You want something done do it your self. Casey is to worried about hurting muslim feelings that he forgot abot american soliders like me. Whos more important gen. Casey us or them? And to crystsal comment #10 look at the whole picture before you defend someone who obviously is not defending you unless you are muslim.
General Casey should either publicly apologize to families of the soldiers killed by the Islamic terrorist major and resign or should face a courts martial for dereliction of duty for putting political correctness above the protection of the army troops. He keeps talking about the importance of diversity when he should be telling the country that he and the rest of the top Army leadership (the other services are also guilty probably) failed to stand-up to their fundamental duties to the constitution. He is not empowered to be a politically correct shill.
casey should be fired for his stupid remarks. all the demos are running for pc answers he was crazy! how was this guy promoted? pc again seems to be the answer………
Crystal: The above link is to an interview with John King. And yes, his words were different than in the interview on msnbc.com on “Meet the Press” with David Gregory. Here are General Casey’s words, verbatim, in that interview: “And as horrific as this tragedy was, if our diversity becomes a casualty, I think that’s worse.” I urge everyone, including Vince, to listen to this interview. General Casey needs to apologize to the victims, their families and the American people. He then needs to bow out gracefully. If not, he needs to be fired immediately.
Casey should be demoted in rank and then fired!! Under his watch, Army Intelligience allowed diversity and political correctness to reign over plain Common Sense.
Contrary to the General’s opinion, the strength of our country and our armed forces is not in its diversity and never has been… it has always been in the coming together for a single purpose – that is what “melting pot” means. An armed force cannot be effective with diverse objectives and opinions, no question.
Fire him now
This guy needs to fired and fast, I can’t believe the idiot would make a statement so insensitive to the victims of the terrorist act at Fort Hood. “As great a tragedy as this was, it would be a shame if our diversity became a casualty as well,” What an A hole, a disgrace to the uniform and a politically correct idiot! FIRE HIM NOW!
@Vince
No, what the Army Live Blog quotes is NOT what he said in the tape, he said that (not quite verbatim) “while what happened at Ft Hood is a tragedy, if we lose our diversity, that is worse.” He did not say such a mitigating statement on the NBC show. That is where he put his foot in his mouth. Don’t think that as soon as he said that the Army PAOs were tearing their too-long-for-regs hair out. I’ll bet the CNN show was filmed AFTER the NBC one.
I would like to believe that Gen. Casey did not say this, but unfortunately it appears he did. How is it that a 4 star general does not understand that a military organization needs UNITY, not diversity? Diversity is inherent in every organization that has people with different backgrounds and skills. The military does not have to be demographically representative of the American people. It needs to be capable of performing its sole mission, winning wars. It needs people dedicated to that mission, and not subversives. Gen. Casey should be fighting against quotas and other ideological constraints. Only those who are willing to take the oath of allegiance, and abide by it should be allowed to serve. But Gen. Casey’s apparent failure to understand what a military force requires dictates that he should resign, as should other flag and general officers who think that UNITY is less important than diversity.
I only hope to God there are enough patriotic men and women in the ranks to really, seriously, consider a mass strike. Yep…the entire branch simple go to their barracks and refuse to follow any command…until Casey resigns in shame. Casey’s idiotic words are unprecedented. Soldiers died because of his pc (marxist) ideology infecting the Army. This is UNPRECEDENTED that the Army is endangering its own soldiers. I say the soldiers MUST fight back with a clear action.
Casey ought to RESIGN after that remark. How in the world can a CONCEPT be more important than HUMAN LIFE?
This is yet another example of Political Correctness and how it will destroy our republic.
Shame
What a coward. If this man is so frightened to tell the truth, he is unfit for duty.
Casey is pathetic.
Diversity is not worth one life, much less thirteen. Anyone disagree?
Again i agree with the last comment. As far as a strike goes i dont know if we need to go that far. But it would most certainly be warranted if it happens. Can we start a petition or something to get this guy to resign?
General Casey is a great Liberal American. He is correct in that we need more Muslims in our Army. But then, why not Nazis, Communists, Bathists and of course Ku Klux Klansmen? How can we celebrate diversity, if we fail to have every group represented? Since Major Hasan was “anti-war” shouldn’t we then recruit Mennonites, Amishmen, Quakers and others, so that we can hear the views of these diverse groups? In reality, Islam in the Army is a tragedy waiting to happen. We have already had eight terrorist attacks against our military by Muslim members of the military. With 3,000 Muslims in the Army, you can count on 3,000 ticking timebombs. Some will be duds and never go off, but some will do just what their Koran says. Oh yes, it does say to KILL infidels. Guess what folks, that’s us non-Muslims. Liberalism has shrunken the brains of so many that we might as well convert to Islam now, and get it over with.
What an idiot! What happened to Patton, McArthur, et al? We shouldn’t jump to conclusions? Just because the terrorist is a muslim, with a lengthy history of anti-american statements, contacted Al-Qaida, and yelled allau akbar, as he murdered our men and women, is no reason to come to any conclusion.
I could never advise any youth to enter the military.
WANTING TO BAR MUSLIMS FROM THE MILITARY IS NOT ABOUT DIVERSITY AND IT ISN’T ABOUT THE ARMY. IT IS ABOUT AN IDEOLOGY THAT IN ITS FUNDAMENTALIST FORM VIEWS EVERYONE ELSE AS AN ENEMY. IT IS PECULIAR THAT PEOPLE RANT ABOUT THE OLD TESTAMENT BEING BLOODY DON’T SEE ANYTHING WRONG WITH AN IDEOLOGY THAT HAS A MILITARISTIC BEGINNING AND ROOTS. WHEN MODERATE MUSLIMS STEP UP AND VOCALLY DENOUNCE THE FUNDAMENTALISTS THEN PERHAPS WE WILL HAVE DIVERSITY IN ACTION FOR MANKIND.
