“The soldier is the Army. No army is better than its soldiers. The Soldier is also a citizen. In fact, the highest obligation and privilege of citizenship is that of bearing arms for one’s country”
― George S. Patton Jr.
On March 18, U.S. Army Sgt. Ashley Randall will accept the nation’s highest honor for valor in combat on behalf of her grandfather, Pvt. 1st Class Demensio Rivera. Rivera’s Distinguished Service Cross will be upgraded to the Medal of Honor for extraordinary heroism in connection with Military operations against an armed enemy of the United Nations while serving with Company G, 2nd Battalion, 7th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division.
It was only recently that Randall learned about her grandfather’s service records and his heroic actions in Korean when she was notified of her next-of-kin status. While Randall and Rivera have never met, they will forever share one common bond – their service in the Military and to their nation.
