From the time you think about becoming a Soldier in the U.S. Army, acronyms become a part of your vocabulary. One of the first things you have to do if you are interesting in joining the Military is to take the ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) . This test helps you and your recruiter better understand your strengths. It is also one of the factors that helps identify which Army job or MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) is best for you.

1.) The CSA (Chief of Staff of the Army) is the most senior uniformed officer assigned to serve in the U.S. Army and serves as the principal military adviser and deputy to the Secretary of the Army. 

2.) BCT (Basic Combat Training) is a training course that transforms civilians into Soldiers. Over the course of ten weeks these recruits learn about the Seven Core Army Values, how to work together as a team and what it takes to succeed as a Soldier in the U.S. Army.

3.) The U.S Army TRADOC (Training and Doctrine Command) develops, educates and trains Soldiers, civilians, and leaders; supports unit training; and designs, builds and integrates a versatile mix of capabilities, formations, and equipment to strengthen the U.S. Army.

4.) After a Soldier completes Basic Combat Training, they attend, AIT (Advanced Individual Training) where they learn the skills needed to perform their Army job.

5.) MEPS (Military Entrance Processing Station) is a Department of Defense joint-service organization staffed with military and civilian professionals that determines applicant’s physical qualifications, aptitude and moral standards as set by each branch of military service.

6.) OPSEC (Operations security) is a vital element in protecting the Army’s Soldiers and missions.

8.) U.S. Army MACOMs (Major Army Commands) include, U.S. Army Material Command, U.S. Army Forces Command among others.

9.) The ACU (Army Combat Uniform) is the utility uniform worn in garrison and in combat zones by the U.S. Army, while the ASU (Army Service Uniform) is the standard garrison service uniform.

10.)  The Army IPFU (Improved Physical Fitness Uniform) is currently used for the APFT (Army Physical Fitness Test).
