Bloggers: Learn about the Military’s role in responding to terrorist attacks

Join the U.S. Army’s Online and Social Media Division for a Bloggers Roundtable Thursday, August 18 at 3:00 p.m. EST to discuss the military’s role in responding to terrorist attacks.

Maj. Gen. Jonathan Treacy, Commander of Joint Task Force – Civil Support, and Maj. Gen. Jeffrey Jacobs, Commanding General of U.S. Army North’s Joint Task Force 51, will be on hand to provide bloggers with information about Vibrant Response – a major training exercise simulating the response to a terrorist attack in the United States.

Vibrant Response, takes place Aug. 16-28 at Camp Atterbury, Ind., and surrounding areas. The training will include urban and aerial search and rescue missions, simulated decontamination operations, airlift and medical training.

In addition to discussing particulars about the training, Maj. Gen. Treacy and Maj. Gen. Jacobs will be on hand to provide information about:
• The phased deployment of military forces upon the request of civilian authorities
• How the military’s supporting role in disaster situations relates to the Posse Comitatus Act
• The function of the Defense Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear Response Force
• The function of the Command and Control Contingency Response Element-A
