Presidential “Whisper” at Sgt. 1st Class Petry’s Medal of Honor Ceremony

If you watched the White House ceremony on July 12 where President Obama awarded Sgt. 1st Class Leroy A. Petry the Medal of Honor, you were probably one of the many people wondering about the infamous “whisper”:

So what DID he say?

After being awarded the Medal of Honor, Sgt. 1st Class Petry told the President that having so many family and friends there with him at the ceremony made it easier for him to accept the award.

Sgt. 1st Class Petry was joined by several rows of decorated Army Rangers, and more than 100 of his family and friends, including his wife, mother, father, grandparents, brothers and four children. With this level of support, the Petry Family’s commitment to serving together exemplifies the strength and resilience so common among our Army Families today. We are grateful for this commitment and we truly thank them for their service.

Tell us what it means to you to be an “Army Strong Family.”
