At a time of fluctuating costs, growing demand, and elevated risk to critical energy supply lines, the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force are working with Department of Defense and Service counterparts to identify and field innovative capabilities to power our agile, mobile, dispersed fighting force while simultaneously pursuing greater energy efficiency and independence.

For example, the U.S. Army is in the midst of a significant transformation of its fleet of 70,000 non-tactical vehicles, including the current deployment of more than 500 hybrids and the acquisition of 4,000 low-speed electric vehicles at domestic installations.
