With a great deal of social networking sites being accessed from smartphones, it was only a matter of time before the U.S. Army’s Social Media Handbook became available as a phone application.
Realizing that online services are extending beyond the PC, the Army’s Online and Social Media Division, teamed up with the Sustainment Center of Excellence Mobile Team of the Combined Arms Support Command at Fort Lee, Va., to begin testing an iTunes application early February.
That application is now available for iPhone users who are looking for information related to social media best practices, branding, case studies, operations security, frequently asked questions and policy such as Department of Defense guidance about the responsible and effective use of internet-based capabilities. The iPad app will be hitting net later this week as well.
As a one-stop-shop, the handbook serves as a resource to a wide variety of audiences who engage in social networking – to include Soldiers, Army Senior Leaders, Army Families, Army personnel and Public Affairs Officers.
