An estimated 3,000 Soldiers, Marines and Army Civilians participated in the 2010 Army Birthday Run this morning at Fort Myer, Va. The three-mile run snaked through Fort Myer and Arlington National Cemetery. This was one of few times people are allowed to run through Arlington. Each unit ran in formation, proudly waving carrying their guidons while chanting and singing a variety of cadences, but once they reached the Arlington gate, the cadences stopped and everyone ran in silence. Soldiers said running through Arlington and reflecting on the sacrifice represented there was a unique and powerful experience.
