Oh the places you’ll go!

In a career with the Army, there is never a dull moment. The work is always changing and for many, so is the location. When I speak with a lot of young people about why they decided to join the Army, the ability to get out and experience new cultures and see new places is often a response. Growing up in a small town in Iowa, I know it was certainly a compelling reason for several young people from my area. And while deploying to combat zones remains a scary thought for many, the excitement of experiencing something new, and the opportunity to truly make a difference and save lives inspires many to fight back hesitation and enlist.

The U.S. Army gets people out of their comfort zones – early and often. From Basic Combat Training stations hundreds of miles from home, to advanced schooling and installations half a world away, there is a lot to experience in the Army.

I’m very new in my Army career, but I’ve already traveled to nearly a dozen installations and seen Army life at locations from Fort Bliss, Texas to Fort Monroe, Va. As I head to Fort Jackson tomorrow, I’m reminded of what a great opportunity the U.S. Army can provide with new experiences, new opportunities, and new challenges at every corner.

So, I’d like to hear from you. What’s the best place the Army has ever taken you?
