Yesterday on Facebook we asked folks to check out the U.S. Army’s Professional writing page, where a number of articles from Soldiers, civilians, academics and others are available. Included in this month’s selection are a number that raise the topic of Afghanistan, one even saying “Afghanistan Doesn’t Matter.” They represent the lively professional debate in and among the Army and other policy makers, and the articles present timely topics and challenging questions for our leadership.

I’d love to hear your thoughts – from those who have deployed to the region, those who have reviewed the professional writings or those following the debates.

Caring Is for The Strong

Caring takes a lot of hard work.
It’s not for the weak.
And when you don’t care and turn away from people?
That’s when the problems start.

And I agree with some of the criticisms
that are down on Afghanistan.

So where’s the balance?

I read the articles.
I admit the short-term looks tough and unforgiving.
An idealogical campaign takes years
and it involves education and generational challanges
that last a long-time.
There is no two ways about it.
Caring is a lot of hard work.

In my estimation, in the short-term (12 to 18 months)
there needs to be a push.
In the long-term the Afghanis need to get their balls back
and take over their own country
and run it the way they want too.
And I think we can help them achieve that goal.
But it takes time and regional commitment.

Yeah even I agree with the fact that how much investment is being done on education and training,no doubt that it takes really long time and I seriously adore US military for their sacrifices and the way they are heading in the Afganistan..I just checked out the other blog and got really inspired,I was looking for something like this only..

Of course Afghanistan matters. Have we forgotten what happened when the world ignored Afghanistan after the Russians left? It became a permissive environment for extremists and was the place where attacks against the US were planned and coordinated.

Afghanistan is a complex place facing enormously difficult social, political, and economic problems that cannot be fixed quickly or cheaply. Ensuring a relatively secure environment is only the first step in a long process. Unfortunately, most people don’t want to hear about long, difficult processes. But this isn’t going to work with quick fixes.

Afghanistan does matter! This is a part of our freedom cause and the campaign for peaceful settlement and democracy for the good of mankind. I am an avid supporter of justice and of peace. One should think that this country has been recently devastated by war. People involved must have their rights respected as humans.
